Opposition party leader Sam Rainsy has expected to return home from self-exile in France before general election in 2013, party said Today.
“Only opposition Sam Rainsy party can be a rival with ruling Cambodian People party for incoming general election in 2013,” Sam Rainsy said through video conference with his party’s members.
Party also urged international institutions to coordinate with ruling party to help him to be able to return home. Sam Rainsy’s case is a political issue that need to deal through political deal,” a lawmaker from SRP party said.
However, “Mr Sam Rainsy should come back home and serve his jail term.” A government official said, adding the government has never used its influence on judiciary system.
Mr. Sam Rainsy had fled Cambodia to France before the court sentenced him to two and half years in jail in absentia for charges of destroying the public property through uprooting the border demarcation between Cambodia and Vietnam in Svay Rieng Province.
