  • PHNOM PENH (CEN) – Cambodia’s military court sentenced the former head of the bodyguard unit of Senate President Chea Sim Friday to 26 years in prison and ordered him to repay $3 million for selling military property including a car and a military camp.

Chhoeun Chanthorn said he would appeal the sentence and declined to talk with reporters.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court had earlier sentenced him to 10 years for using illegal weapons and issuing fake gun licenses.

The former chief bodyguard of the Senate president, who is also chairman of the ruling Cambodian People's Party, was arrested at his house with three subordinates on August 13 last year.
