The Vow made $7.4 million on Friday
After its remarkable first week at the box office, The Vow looks like it’s headed for another weekend win. The romantic drama, which stars Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, is exhibiting major legs, despite its overwhelmingly poor reviews. The Vow smooched up $7.4 million yesterday, and looks headed for a four-day take above $30 million.

In second (for now), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance rode to a $7 million Friday. The Nicolas Cage comic book sequel will suffer from both the fanboy effect and the sequel effect (when eager fans rush out to see a movie on opening night) this weekend, so a frontloaded cume is in store. Expect Ghost Rider, which earned a poor “C+” CinemaScore grade, to find about $24 million through Monday night.

Safe House stuck around in third place with $6.5 million on Friday. The action film, which stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, will likely climb into second place over the full four-day frame with about $27 million.

This Means War didn’t get totally crushed by The Vow, but it’s hard to be too impressed with its fourth place start and $5.6 million total Friday. Reese Witherspoon’s action-filled rom-com isn’t striking a Mr. and Mrs. Smith kind of chord at the box office, though it did earn an encouraging “A-” CinemaScore grade, which could help it down the road. Over its first four days, though, War may have to settle for about $19 million.
