  • With all of the holiday parties and functions coming up during December, it’s important to know how to dress your best for any occasion. If you are attending any sort of black tie or cocktail parties this season, here is a general guide of what will work and what won’t work.
    To wear: Black Lace
Nothing says chic and sexy like a lacy black dress. Black lace is a great way for you to discreetly show a bit more skin, without actually showing it. Just make sure that the dress isn’t too short (it should cut off just a bit above the knee) and you have yourself a winning holiday dress.
    Not to Wear: Tiny Dresses
While lace is a nice way to discreetly show off your “peekaboo” areas such as your cleavage, wearing a tiny dress that shows both your cleavage and a lot of leg will just leave you looking trashy and unsophisticated. When it comes to important functions this holiday season, choose to reveal only one of your best assets. If you have great legs, wear a slightly shorter dress but make sure you’re not busting out on top. If you have a great bust line, give people a little sneak peak but cover up your legs down to the knee.
    To Wear: Metallic Shades
Metallic dresses work fantastically during the holiday season, especially if you choose a metallic shade that compliments your skin tone. Silver is a great cooler color for those with cooler skin tones, while bronze and gold will warm up any warmer skin tones. Choose champagne when ever in doubt as almost any woman can pull this color off.
Not to Wear: Too much Beading & Sequins
Metallics are nice, but within reason. Don’t go overboard and buy a dress that is loaded with beading and sequins, especially in areas that you probably don’t want to highlight (for instance, if you have a bit of a rounder tummy, make sure that the beading and sequins are on the bust area and are not around your waist).
The best way to pull off any sort of dress that has beading or sequins is to focus on the style of the dress. You want to look for cool, hip styles that are trendy. This season, the trapeze and tank-style dresses are a great choice, or you can choose halter-style dresses that have beading and sequins only around the neck or the hem.
    To Wear: Red Dresses
“Red just doesn’t work with my skin tone!” If this sounds a lot like you, then you just haven’t found the right red dress for you. Almost any woman of any skin tone and hair color can pull off a red dress. The issue may be that you are trying to pull off a head to toe red look. When wearing a red dress, make sure that you pair it with a hot pair of metallic or black heels and accessories that match those colors.
