  • PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - About 50 Preah Vihear residents representing 157 families involved in a land dispute with Deputy Governor Sor Thavy and Special Brigade Deputy Commander York Van Luch gathered in front of Wat Bothum Thursday asking for Prime Minister Hun Sen and First Lady Bun Rany to intervene.

It was the second time that the residents held such a gathering since the two led 400 troops with excavators into Svay Chrom village on December 30 to bulldoze homes, schools and a temple funded by the prime minister and his wife.

The villagee, 13km from the Preah Vihear Temple, was recognized and approved by authorities. When the temple was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2008, however, authorities required residents to move to a conservation zone.
