LOS ANGELES, February 29, 2012 (AFP) - Boxer Dereck Chisora has been slapped with an indefinite suspension by the World Boxing Council after brawling with bitter British rival David Haye during a post-fight news conference.
"The WBC is absolutely condemning behaviors that are not to be accepted in boxing under any circumstances and will act as soon as it can proceed to impose fines and sanctions as we consider necessary," the WBC said in a news release on Tuesday.
The WBC said Chisora would be suspended indefinitely pending an investigation and that it expected to eventually impose "a serious fine."
The WBC described Chisora's actions as "one of the worst behaviors ever by a professional boxer".
Chisora has also been removed from the boxing sanctioning group's rankings list and the group is demanding that he undergo anger management counselling.
Chisora is also in hot water with the German police. Having lost to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last Saturday, Chisora remains under investigation by Munich police for his part in the brawl during the post-fight press conference when he threatened to "shoot" Haye.
