PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Tourism Minister Thong Khon says the Clean City Contest to be launched next week will help tourism become an efficient mechanism for preserving culture and conserving natural resources.
"The Clean City Contest is the best tool for Cambodia as well as the world to turn cities into top-quality green destinations," he told the Cambodian Herald.
Prime Minister Hun Sen is expected to preside over the launch of the contest next Monday.
Tong Khon said all cities in Cambodia were obliged to participate in the contest, which will start in March with results being announced in September.
Each city will be assessed for indicators such as environment, cleanliness, waste management, awareness raising, green areas, health safety, security and tourism infrastructure with a possible maximum score of 77.
Cities which score 75 or above will be awarded a three-flower logo valid for three years, the minister said. Those which score from 60 to 74 will get a two-flower logo and those which score 40 to 59 a single-flower logo.
