The first step in solving any problem lies in identifying the source of that problem. In this case, you need to find out what is causing that itch on your head. There are plenty of possible reasons why your scalp is always so itchy. Here is a list of some of the most common causes of an itchy scalp:

Dandruff – This all comes down to proper hygiene and hair care. The right shampoo can keep dandruff at bay. If your old shampoo didn’t work, try switching to a different kind. Also remember that sweat helps the growth of dandruff, so make sure shower after every workout.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis – Simply avoiding the allergen can get rid of the problem completely, so as long as you know what’s triggering the allergic reaction, you can just avoid using products that have it.

Folliculitis – A shampoo with salicylic acid will help alleviate the itchiness. Antibacterial cleansing products with tea tree oil can also help remove excess oil and bacteria.
Psoriasis – There are treatments that can greatly help relieve the itchiness caused by psoriasis. Turmeric, neem oil, lavender, and eucalyptus oil have all been known to be effective cures for psoriasis.
Head Lice – Home remedies that contain oil, like olive oil and even mayonnaise can get rid of adult head lice while lemon juice can eliminate lice eggs.
As with all skin problems, it is important not to ignore any persistent head itch as it may well be a case of a skin infection that may develop into a painful and extended scalp problem.
