PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Prince Sisowath Thomico has denied accusations by lawyers defending former head of state Khieu Samphan that King Father Norodom Sihanouk was involved with the Khmer Rouge, sources said Wednesday.
"Justice and history need certain and definite things," the King Father's advisor wrote in a letter, noting that the then Prince Sihanouk resigned as head of state in 1976, allowing Khieu Sampan to assume the role.
Khieu Samphan is currently on trial with two other surviving leaders of the Pol Pot regime between 1975 and 1979.
The sources said the letter also denied accusations that Prince Sihanouk ordered the murders of the two influential Khmer Rouge leaders Ho Yon and Ho Nim in 1977, noting that he had no power and was being kept under palace arrest at the time.
