  • PHNOM PENH (Cambodia - 24h.Plus News) - Opposition Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Mu Sochua said Tuesday that  she would send a letter to Social Affairs Minister Ith Samheng asking for permission to lead a group of civil society representatives to visit 30 Borei Keila residents detained in Prey Speu Correctional Center in Dang Kour district.

Speaking to reporters, she called for the release of the residents who were arrested last week during a protest.

One of the women detained, Khiev Lay, said by phone from Prey Spue that the residents were still trying to get property developer Phanimex Co to build two more apartment buildings as promised.

Phanimex has forced the residents to live in Toul Sambo, Dang Kour district, while others have been taken to Phnom Bat which lacks infrastructure.
