  • PHNOM PENH (Herald) - Prime Minister Hun Sen appealed to authorities including police and soldiers to cooperate and work with political parties to make sure meetings are not stopped or interrupted in the lead-up to commune council elections in June.

“All the political parties are currently preparing their board members to be eligible in the upcoming election so authorities have to take part to make the election proceed well," he said during a ground-breaking ceremony for a national highway.

Hun Sen also said that the ruling Cambodia People's Party was planning a general assembly to sum up and evaluate tasks between  2007 and 2012 and formulate new plans for 2012-2017.

Name registrations for the commune council election will be available from March 1 to 3, with the election due on June 3.
