How do you get Ear Infection

  • Ear:

    Ear is an organ which helps us hear and detect sound. The ear comprises of the pinna, external auditory canal, tympanic membrane, tympanic cavity, malleus, incus, Eustachian tube, vestibular tube, cochlear nerve, Cochlea and the round window. Together they form the Ear. These organs help to detect sound and forward those sound signals to the brain. Brain then reacts back to these signals.

    What is ear infection?
    Ear infection is a common thing that is observed in many people. There are three common types of ear infections:

    • Inner ear infection or the Otitis interna

    • Outer ear infection of the Otitis externa

    • Middle ear infection or the Otitis media

    Pain in the ear:

    Some people face ear pain during their air flight or after the flight. This mainly occurs due to change in altitude and pressure. It generally is a temporary pain and subsides after an hour or two. If the pain remains for longer time one must consult a doctor.

    Swimmer’s ear is another common ways of ear pain. If water is trapped in the ear for long time, it leads to infection and leads to painful ear. One must clean his ears properly after a swim or a bath.

    Ear pain is another common problem occurring and gives a lot of problem. The intense of pain is very high. The pains can occur due to following reasons,

    • Chillness

    • Entry of foreign body in the ear

    • Allergy

    • Filling of wax in the ear

    Avoiding extreme cold food and drinks, avoiding wetting ear by closing it with cotton swabs, pouring warm nutmeg oil around the ear may help relieving from pain.
    Noise in Ear:

    Noise in ear is also frequently faced by many people. It is also known as Tinnitus. In this the patient hears ringing, humming or buzzing sounds. This may cause a person to lose his attention and decrease his level of concentration. It may also lead to insomnia.

    Medical illness and emergency:

    Sometimes, the Eustachian tube that runs from middle of each ear to the back of the throat may get blocked leading to infections. Due to this blocking many medical illness, Ear Wax may occur as follows,

    • Allergies

    • Dizziness

    • Severe head pain

    • Cough and cold

    • High fever

    • Tooth pain

    One should take immediate medical emergency if he or she has a high fever along with earache. One should also consult a doctor if there is a long time swelling around the ear or observes weakness in his face muscles. The doctor must be consulted if there is cough or sore throat persisting for a long time.
