KOMPONG SPEU (CEN) – Some 300 Amlaing residents returned home Friday after appealing to the Kompong Speu Provincial Court to resolve a dispute with a sugar company owned by Ly Yongphat, a source said.
The source added that the court president promised to arrange a meeting between the plaintiff and residents on Monday.
Phal Vannak, representative of the residents, announced plans to collect 1,000 thumb prints and hold a protest at the Amlaing commune headquarters on Sunday.
“Members of parliament will go to the meeting in Amlaing on that day. We're Cambodian People’s Party members so we'll go to the meeting and ask them to solve the problem for us,” he said.
Phal Vannak added that the residents were also writing letters to Prime Minister Hun Sen as well as the Ministry of Justice and the Anti-Corruption Unit to help resolve the dispute.
Amlaing residents have been gathering in front of the court since Thursday when the protest was broken up by authorities.
