Banteay Mean Chey provincial court of Cambodia on Thursday sentenced former secretary general of national authority of fighting against drug and his aide to life in jail after the court found them guilty of taking bribery and masterminds of dealing drugs.
Moek Dara, former secretary general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, and Chea Leng involved in drug trafficking, taking bribery and drug deals. The court also fined Dara with 225, 4000 dollars and ordered him to pay 100,000 dollars to states, and court ordered to confiscate his money in bank with 80,000 dollars.
The court ordered to confiscate his house, money and property. The court fined $21,000 dollars for his deputy, Leng. “It is injustice for me. I served my duties effectively and cracked down on drug trafficking for several places,” Dara told reporters outside the court room after verdict announcement. “I am not sure about complaining petition to appeal court but I need to consider with my lawyer first,” he added.
Moek Dara and his deputy arrested on 12 January, 2012 by anti-corruption unit which implemented the law of anti-corruption law last year. One of hid deputies, Morn Doeun is still at large but the court sentenced him in absentia to 25 years. Police is investigated for him.
